Aren't They Helping Out? The Agricultural Sector In Nigeria Is Still Largely Untapped - Manufacturers

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria on Wednesday said that Nigeria was yet to utilise the economic potentials of the agricultural sector, as a alternative source of income generation, despite the dwindling fortune from the production and export of crude oil as the nation's major income generator.

The association made the call during the 28th annual general meeting of its Edo and Delta States branch.

The Chairman of the branch, Mr. Humphrey Masodje, noted that the sector had the capacity to provide up to 60 per cent employment for millions of unemployed Nigerians resident in both urban and rural areas.

Remember This Speech? I Will Not Contest 2015 Election, Jonathan Said In 2011

President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, said he has no ambition to stay in office beyond 2015, assuring Nigerians in Diaspora that while he will not contest the 2015 election, he will ensure that this year's election is free and fair.

The President promised that if voted in for the next four years, he would ensure significant improvement in key sectors of the economy — security, power, education, road, health amongst others.

"Without security, there is no government. So it is not debatable, it is something we have to addressed and we are working towards that with vigour. But if I'm voted into power within the next four years, the issue of power will become a thing of the past. Four years is enough for anyone in power to make significant improvement and if I can't improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything even if I am there for the next four years."

We Must Hammer Out Ways To Develop Delta, Sonny Odogwu Tells PDP Gov Aspirants

Elder statesman and a member of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, Chief Sonny Odogwu, wants all Delta State governorship aspirants on the banner of the PDP to dialogue and hammer out ways of developing the state.

This is one of the reasons he will be meeting with the cleared aspirants in Asaba on Friday, he told Vanguard in an interview, yesterday.

On why he wants to meet with the aspirants, he said: "I am a Nigerian, and a foremost political leader in Delta State. I am very much concerned with the turn of events in the country today. I have observed things from the pre-independence days, what I am seeing now is strange to me.

"What is actually strange is the way people behave and the way they take things. I have always thought that the younger generation that are now better exposed than our generation in the pre-colonial days, will do better than what I am seeing now. But it is not so.

Ekiti Jailbreak: As Usual, Federal Government Sets Up Probe Panel

The Federal Government has set up a panel of
inquiry to uncover those behind the attack on the federal prison, on Afao-Ekiti Road, Ado-Ekiti where some inmates were set free.

Minister of Interior, Comrade Patrick Abba Moro made this revelation yesterday during the commissioning of 12 convenience rooms built by United Bank For Africa, UBA, for Ikoyi Passport office of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

The minister confirmed that 274 out of the 320 prisoners who escaped are still at large while 46 have been recaptured by security agencies.

The minister said he would not pin down the attack on any group till investigation was concluded.

"At the moment I don't want to attribute the occurrence in Ado Ekiti prison to some conspiracy theory or attack by insurgents. We will get to the root of these attacks through a
multi-sectional investigative panel put in place to find out the culpability or otherwise of those suspected to be involved and when we are through we will appropriately inform the Nigeria public"

He praised the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, especially Ikoyi Passport office headed by Deputy Comptroller Of Immigration, DCI, Modupe Anyalechi for adequately keying into the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan, especially in the area of attracting the private sectors to partner with government to deliver service to Nigerians.

"I recommend this attitude to other formations of the Nigerian service. I can tell you that the restructuring and repositioning of Nigeria is on course and hopefully with the cooperation of all and sundry the Nigerian Immigration Service will soon become a new immigration service for a new Nigeria."
