Immigration Deports 82 Illegal Immigrants Found With Temporal Voter Cards

Keeping to its promise of repatriating foreigners caught meddling with next month's elections, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has sent packing, 82 Nigeriens, who were found with Temporary Voter Cards (TVCs).

The aliens were said to have been arrested during raids conducted by NIS officials across Lagos.

The suspects, it was learnt, had claimed they were from Borno State to register to vote.
They, however, claimed that they obtained the TVCs for the purpose of making money during elections from politicians.

Briefing reporters before the repatriation, the Comptroller, Immigration, Mrs Justina Ahmadu, reiterated her warning that foreigners should stay away from the elections.

She said that it (election) was strictly for Nigerians, noting that the service was bent on flushing illegal immigrants from the country for security reasons.

"I appeal to those employing them (aliens) to ensure they have their valid travel documents the moment they employ them. They should make sure they procure their resident cards for them in order to qualify them to stay legally in the country.

"All foreigners residing in Lagos should also know that the forthcoming election is Nigerians' affair and as such, they should not meddle into it," she said.

Some of the suspects disclosed that they have been in the country for about four years and were lured into registering by their counterparts who told them to pretend they were from Borno State.

Some of the aliens most of who could understand English gave their names as Mohammed, Idris, Kanaide, Mohammed, Musa and Shuaibu, adding that they came to Lagos in lorries that conveyed live cows.

Asked where they resided, the suspects said they lived under the bridges and shanties in different parts of the state before their arrest.

"I have been in Lagos for close to four years. I came into the country in a truck conveying cows. I supply water to residents who do not have access to boreholes.

"Many of us have temporary voter cards. We posed as Northerners because our names sound like theirs. Some of our friends told us we should get the cards, that we would be giving money during elections.

"But we were not able to get our Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) because we were afraid to go to the designated points since immigration officers visited regularly," said one Mohammed.

Policemen Threaten Strike Over Unpaid Salaries, As IGP Warns Against Breach Of Discipline

----------------------
Press Release
----------------------

The attention of Police High Command has been drawn to a media publication captioned, "Policemen Threaten Strike over unpaid salaries".

At the outset, it is pertinent to state that, the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force is mindful of its responsibility towards the welfare of the workforce; part of which is promotion and recognition of hard work.

As is expected, every promotion attracts some financial benefits, and which have been deeply considered in the course of processing and approving the promotions. For the avoidance of doubt the Nigeria Police Force is working assiduously with relevant government departments and agencies to effect the payment of the promotion arrears. Meanwhile, all promoted officers have since January 2015 been enjoying the salaries attendant on their new ranks.

It needs be stated for the umpteenth time that the Nigeria Police Force is founded on the bedrock of discipline and loyalty. The Police Regulation has provided enough windows for aggrieved officers to ventilate their grievances.

The IGP wishes to use this medium to restate his commitment to the welfare of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force. Hence all hands must be on deck to sustain measures put in place to ensure a safe and secured nation.

As such, the IGP is miffed that officers have to recourse to unapproved channels to air their perceived grievances. The IGP therefore warns such officers of the dire consequences of breaching extant rules and regulations.

The IG of Police Orders Full-Scale Investigation Into Okrika Shootings

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba CFR, NPOM, NPM, mni, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the shooting incident yesterday, 17th February, 2015 at the campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Okrika, Rivers State, during which three Policemen were injured and one killed.

He has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge Zone 6 Calabar, AIG Johnson Tunde Ogunshakin to take over the investigation and promptly bring to book all the perpetrators, conspirators and sponsors.

He further directed a judicious prosecution of suspects arrested in connection with violence across the country.

The IGP also noted with grave concern that despite serious warnings, advices and interfaces with political actors to avoid acts of violence in the ongoing electoral process, such acts have continued.

However, the IGP restated the resolve and commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, and in line with its constitutional and statutory mandate, to continue to provide an impartial level playing ground for all political parties to sell their manifestoes and woo the electorate.

The IGP deeply regretted the loss of lives of Policemen in the course of providing safety in the electoral process. His heart went out to the families of the slain colleagues as he wished the injured officers speedy recovery and return to national duty.

A former banker with Fidelity Bank Plc, Friday Yahaya (alias Peter Arikhan) has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before Justice Lawal Akapo of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, for stealing depositors' fund to the tune of N25, 350,000.00(Twenty-Five Million, Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira only).

He was arraigned on a 16-count charge bordering on stealing; impersonation and forgery.

Yahaya, a former marketing staff of Fidelity Bank, Balogun Business Association branch, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos, allegedly defrauded nine customers of the bank through diversion of their deposits into his personal account with the bank. His worst-hit victim had the sum of N21, 710,000 (Twenty One Million Seven Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira) stolen from his account with the Bank.

One of the charges reads:

Ekiti Gate: APC Wants Obanikoro Banned From Public Office, Adesiyan Sacked As Minister

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has called for the banning of former Minister of state for Defence, Musliu Obanikoro, from holding any public office over his role in the rigging of the governorship election in Ekiti state on June 21, 2014.

Mr. Obanikoro's name was Tuesday sent to the Senate for confirmation as minister, by President Goodluck Jonathan. The APC asked the Senate not to confirm Mr. Obanikoro.

APC also asked Nigeria's armed forces to immediately begin investigating Aliyu Momoh, a Major General for his role in the alleged rigging of the election in Ekiti and repeating same in Osun and ensure that immediate and necessary disciplinary action are taken against all individuals that were involved in what it said was subversion of democracy.

A video recording recently emerged of an intelligence officer in the Nigerian Army, Captain Sagir Koli, giving details of how General Momoh was used by Mr. Obanikoro, Ayo Fayose and others to rig the election.

Also now in the public domain is a recording of a secret meeting convened by top Peoples Democratic Party's politicians to strategise on how to rig the Ekiti election.

Rising from its first joint leadership meeting at the Shehu Yar'Adua Centre Abuja, the APC also asked the Federal government to immediately relieve the Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan of his appointment.

The opposition party also asked the Nigerian government to ensure that the armed forces are kept out of partisan politics in line with a recent judgment by a court in Sokoto and its affirmation by the Court of Appeal on Monday.

Part of the outcome of the joint leadership meeting was that the rescheduled election dates of the March 28 and April 11 must remain sacrosanct. The party said it would not tolerate any further shift.

The party added that "the use of the card reader for the 28th of March and 11th of April is non-negotiable, as contrary to the misinformation being disseminated the use of card reader is not synonymous with electronic voting".

Speaking earlier, the party's presidential candidate and former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, urged members of the party not to "relax" after the completion of its campaign rallies nationwide.

Mr. Buhari said APC should not lose focus due to the extension. "Our patience and resilience will be tested in the days ahead. We must pass this test. In a time like this, which in football analogy can be referred to as extra time, we must avoid making costly mistakes," Mr. Buhari said. The APC presidential candidate said the party must use the next six weeks "to re-charge and re-focus on our goal".

He said the goal of the APC remains to win the elections now slated for March 28 and April 11 with a convincing majority.

"We should aim to achieve a victory that will be beyond dispute and proceed to form the next government and start work on the task of rebuilding our beloved country.

"Our eyes must be on the objective to build a great society that works for all of us. A country where every child has an equal opportunity to get an education, where every young Nigerian who needs a job can find one. Where the sick are looked after and senior citizens are provided for. A country which gives value to human life, where the welfare and security of all is a national priority and corruption is defeated," he said.

Speaking on the Ekiti rigging debacle, Mr. Buhari expressed surprise at the silence from the government over the matter.

"Up till now, there has been no official denial of this most unfortunate event. It makes me wonder, in the circumstances that led to shifting of the date of the Federal Elections, whether the security services are even now being prepared to play similar roles in the March 28th and April 11th elections.

Mr. Buhari said security services have serious constitutional responsibilities to the people of the nation adding that their importance to the health of the country cannot be underestimated.

He urged the leadership of the security services to keep the institutions out of partisan politics.

"I personally and, am sure, all Nigerians, have tremendous respect for our security services. I therefore urge strongly that they stick to, and concentrate on, their constitutional duties, otherwise they stand the risk of becoming part of our already complicated national situation," he said.

He also thanked members of the party who took time to participate in his campaign rallies across the country.

He particularly thanked those "who have been made mind boggling offers by our opponents in a bid to break our ranks and curtail our momentum in the march to change Nigeria for good, yet you have chosen to be on the side of a cause that is just". He appealed to the party leaders and faithful not to rest thinking that all is won. "Six weeks is a long time and we do not know the plans of the other side but with our strong resolve, we will prevail.

"Therefore let us keep our eyes on the ball. Let us work as we have never done before, and let us watch and help each other. The days and weeks ahead will be tough.

"Our resolve will be tested and all kinds of evil tricks will be on display. But do not despair. The goal is in sight. Change is coming. The people of Nigeria will prevail. God has destined Nigeria to be a great country. We shall overcome and Change shall be achieved," Mr. Buhari said.

Jonathan Approves More Than 20 Armed Soldiers, Police, Civil Defence To Edwin Clark’s Compound

As the Nigerian army continues to battle insurgents with poorly supplied soldiers in the north, President Goodluck Jonathan has deployed more than 20 armed security agents to his godfather, Mr. Edwin Clark.

The security personnel include soldiers, mobile policemen, and civil defence agents and all of them are armed with sophisticated weapons.

As early as 10am, the security operatives were seen inside the compound, drinking various brands of beer and wine next to several exotic cars.

They later sauntered onto the nearby Haile Selassie Street to harass pedestrians and passing by vehicles.

On Tuesday when our correspondent visited the house, the security men were seen drinking inside the compound again.

A forlorn-looking Sgt. Anthony Bekalobe refused to take a Star Beer, which was being distributed by a Lance Corporal in the army.

Police Inspector Moses Chukwuma was seen happily drinking several cans of Star Beer with other soldiers in the compound.

Meetings are held daily with many anti-election supporters of Jonathan at Mr. Clark's residence, Mr. Clark is said to preside over them.

Edwin Clark is the head of a group calling for the removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega.

Malnutrition, Diabetes, Major Causes Of Boils In Children – Expert

Dr Kunle Otuneye, a Consultant Paediatrician at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Wednesday said frequent boils in children could be a sign of malnutrition and diabetes.

Otuneye told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that boils in children was also the cause for poor immune system.

According to him, boils are infections of the skin particularly affecting the hair follicles or sebaceous glands.

"If your child is suffering from the incidence of boils at regular intervals in spite of taking all necessary precautions to stay away from boils, a blood test will be required to know the cause.

"Many children in fact suffer from frequent incidence of boils due to weak immune system.

"The body having a weak immune system fails to resist the attack of the bacteria responsible for boils and as a result of which the child gets infected with boils again and again.

"Children with poor immune system have colonies of bacteria in their nasal chamber due to which they are repeatedly affected by boils,'' Otuneye said.

He said other predisposing factors of frequent boils in children could be immune suppression (acquired or congenital), poor personal hygiene and exposure of the skin to irritants.

Otuneye said boils are skin abscesses that are caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, adding that boils can affect the skin of any person no matter the age group he belongs to.
He said incidences of boils in children are quite common as compared to adults.

"The reason of occurrence of boils in more number in children than in adults can easily be detected as boils are prevalent in bodies that are exposed to excessive dust and dirt.

"Children playing in field and mud are more prone to being infected by boils as the bacteria can easily enter inside their skin through the wounds or incisions they are inflicted with,'' Otuneye said.

He advised mothers to consult their doctors if their children were suffering from recurrent boils, saying that certain antibiotics or surgical draining may be necessary in order to kill the bacteria causing germs.

Otuneye said bacterial culture could be prescribed if necessary as the culture was one of the easiest means to detect the exact cause of boils in children.

"Children who are being continually suffering from repeated incidence of boils can be because of themselves carrying the germ inside their body.

"Boils in children are quite ugly in appearance. They are filled with pus, which gets discharged along with blood when the boil gets matured.

"As a parent you are recommended to be careful while the pus comes out. The pus is highly contagious which has to be cleaned time to time so that it is not allowed to come in contact with the unaffected part of skin,'' he said.

Otuneye advised parents on proper hygiene for their children, stressing that prevention was better than cure.

President Jonathan Cronies Secretly File 5 More Cases To Stop Buhari and INEC

The number of cases filed by President Goodluck Jonathan aiming to abort the 2015 election has increased to 10, according to SaharaReporters investigations.

Of this number, three are targeted at stopping the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from conducting the elections.

One of the latest cases was filed directly by the Attorney General of Plateau State and 28 others, seeking an order of the Federal High Court to prevent INEC from using the electoral register recently updated using Personal Voter Cards. The suit, titled Plateau State Government & 28 others V INEC, wants the commission to use the same voter register that was used in 2011.

Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, is President Jonathan's Man Friday who heads the President's faction of the Nigeria Governors Forum.

Other cases were filed by:

Selekaye Victor Ben, and targets the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress party, Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian Army. Filed on February 11, the case seeks an order of the court to strip Buhari of all military entitlements and another order that would put Buhari under arrest.

"Presidential View and Endorsement Platform", led by one Barrister Smart Iheazor, combines both Buhari and INEC. It contends that Buhari's name on the West African School Certificate certificate recently released by his school in Katsina is different from his current name.

Sergin Onuka Ibe, accusing Buhari of filing a false deposition with INEC; he seeks an order barring INEC and the APC from fielding Buhari as candidate in the 2015 election.

An unspecified litigant, who accuses Buhari of being in possession of a false party card in which he claims to be a "civil servant".
Barrister Friday Ojealaro, claiming that Buhari is not clear and unambiguous, and should be disqualified;

Shield Jones Ufot V Buhari, filing a criminal complaint against Buhari before a Magistrate court in Abuja

Chukwunweike Okafor, against Buhari, APC and INEC, arguing that Buhari be disqualified and APC name struck out from partaking in the general election.

"Society for Advancement And Protection of Public Rights", which asks the court to disallow the use of card readers and nullify the ongoing continuous voter registration; and
Philip Agbese against INEC, seeking postponement of the elections until PVCs are provided to all registered voters.

SaharaReporters has further learnt that these cases were mostly assigned to one Justice Adeniyi Ademola at the Federal High Court in Abuja. It is unclear why all the cases have been handed to one judge, but Justice Ademola is believed to be working hand in hand with President Jonathan to spring a surprise.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the same court had earlier received some of the cases but our sources said the President's men wrote a petition against him.
