Time Unveils 'Person Of The Year': Ebola Fighters Clinch Award

Foday Gallah saw the sick child was distressed and felt he had to do something. So he picked the kid up to comfort him.

And with that act of kindness, the 37-year-old ambulance supervisor in Monrovia, Liberia, contracted Ebola himself.

"Of course, he got vomit all over him and that's how he got Ebola," said photographer Jackie Nickerson, who shot Gallah's image for Time's "Person of the Year" magazine cover, which honours those on the front line of the Ebola epidemic.

They're "the ones who answered the call," the magazine said on its website Wednesday morning.

Nigerians Say Digitalization Has Impacted On Banking, E-Commerce

Some Information Technology (IT) operators on Wednesday said that digital technology had impacted positively on the banking industry and e-commerce in the country.

However, they observed that it had yet to impact on the larger business people who were farmers and traders in the market.

They also told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that government could still do more to aid internet penetration.

ARREST: Police Nab 15 Dog Eaters In Delta State

No fewer than 15 persons have been arrested by police detectives in Asaba, Delta State for allegedly stealing and killing dogs that are not theirs.

It was reliably gathered that residents of the area have always been complaining of their dogs missing in the area before it was discovered that the suspects were the ones behind the incidence.

Expectedly, the police detectives were said to have uncovered a joint around Nnebisi road, popularly called "Billy Finish," where young men and girls whose ages range between 19 and 23, cool off with the well prepared dog meat.

A Special Advice To Agbaje, Lagos PDP Governorship Candidate, By Olalekan

At last, it appears the aspiration of Jimi Agbaje becoming the governor of Lagos State is almost actualised, especially from the just concluded primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party, where he polled 432 against Musiliu Obanikoro's 343. This victory, however, is not to be celebrated as the great task lies ahead.

In achieving this feat, Agbaje has been able to move around many parties of which AD was his first and finally to the PDP, on whose platform he seems to be having a swell time.

However, he needs to quickly, on a daily basis, sing his manifesto to the people of Lagos, assuring them he is real and would do more for them, as knowing most of them would vote for parties and not individual.

A Herculean task lies ahead of him, which I hope he can subdue like David did to Goliath in the bible. The only problem I foresee is the party whose back he is riding on. Another party would have given him more sympathy vote to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress.

Why Can't Fuel Price Reduce In Nigeria When Crude Oil Prices Are Dropping?

High subsidy payments, devaluation of the naira and low capacity utilisation of the country's refineries have been identified as factors denying Nigerians a reduction in the pump price of petrol amid falling global oil prices.

A visit by our correspondent revealed lack of activity in some stations in several parts of the state. For instance, at Oando and Conoil filling stations at Obalende in the afternoon, attendants said they were not selling because
they had exhausted the products they had and were awaiting tankers to bring products.

Fuel Scarcity Hits Lagos, As Petrol Supply Drops

Petrol supply in Lagos worsened on Tuesday as long queues of vehicles resurfaced in a number of filling stations, disrupting the free flow of traffic on some roads.

Indication also emerged that loading activities at the Lagos depots dropped by over 80 per cent.

But the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and its downstream subsidiary, the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, said the country had over 32 days stock of petroleum products.

An executive member of the Petrol Tanker Drivers arm of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, who did not want his name disclosed because he was not authorised to speak on the issue, said about 200 trucks usually loaded petrol on a daily basis, but...
