Hot: The New Gel Treatment That Boosts A Woman’s Sex Life After Menopause [Must Read]

A new once-daily hormone treatment has boosted the sex lives of older women.

Using VagiCap increased by a third the number of women getting sexual satisfaction, say findings from a trial.

The treatment, which is not yet available, is aimed at women who experience pain during sex and other symptoms caused by the menopause.

More than half of post-menopausal women suffer vaginal dryness that can make sex uncomfortable because of a lack of the hormone oestrogen.

The new treatment is a tear-shaped softgel capsule designed for easy insertion once a day, alleviating local symptoms.

However, the oestrogen has less effect throughout the body than hormone replacement therapy (HRT) which should lessen any side effects.

Dr Sheryl Kingsberg, chief of the Division of Behavioural Medicine Department at UH Case Medical Center in Cleveland, presented the trial at the International Society of Women's Sexual Health Annual Meeting, in Austin, Texas.

Dr Kingsberg said: 'Menopause is typically associated with hot flashes (flushes), but there are other common and distressing symptoms such as pain and discomfort during sex due to lack of oestrogen.

'Approximately 30 million women in the United States experience this condition, which can really impact their quality of life.'

She said the VagiCap, if approved by regulatory authorities, could be a treatment that women 'may find to be convenient and easy to use'.

Nigeria Economy Getting Worse As Naira Falls To N217 Against The Dollar

The Naira on Friday traded at N215 against the Dollar at the Bureau De Change (BDCs) segment of the official market. It equally sold for N217 at the black market,

This rapid depreciation has been hinged on the closure of the Retail Dutch Auction System by the Central Bank of Nigeria on February 18, 2015.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Retail Dutch Auction System is a foreign exchange window at CBN where the Bureau de Change and commercial banks buy forex.

Although the CBN's decision to close the retail Dutch Auction System was meant to control speculations, a source who spoke to NAN opined that this has made other currencies to be scarce.

The source also said that dealers were left to source for forex only at the interbank market unlike in the past when they had three to four segments to buy.

Besides, the Naira against the pound at the BDCs exchanged for N332 from the N307 it sold on Monday.

It went for N335 at the black market from the N314 it sold four days ago.

Vote For PDP And Free Yourselves From Bondage, President Jonathan Tells Lagos Residents

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, on Friday assured the residents of Lagos State that victory for the Peoples Democratic Party in the upcoming general elections would free them from oppression.

He gave this assurance during the solidarity visit by the leaders of market women groups, "Iyalojas", in Lagos and environs.

Jonathan told the market women that the PDP administration would provide the enabling environment for them to ply their trades.

Jonathan said, "Our victory at the polls will free all Lagos traders from oppression. You need to be free; we will remove Lagos from bondage,'' he assured.

"I have listened to you; you have been carrying the PDP flag; you have been humiliated but you still marched on.

"Thank you for working hard for PDP; this is the final struggle and time for us to use all our strength to achieve victory,'' he said, adding that the country belonged to every Nigerian.

"If we struggle and win Lagos state, everybody will do his business without being harassed or intimidated,'' the president added.

Governor Uduaghan Commissions Umunede-Mbiri Farm road, Urges Deltans To Vote For Jonathan

Delta State Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has commissioned the 7.8 kilometres Umunede-Mbiri Road Rehabilitation, promising to continue to deliver democracy dividends to the people of the state.

Addressing the audience which included traditional rulers, palace chiefs, political leaders and stakeholders, the governor said that "the road will improve inter-city road transportation, enhance urban growth, communication and reinvigorate commerce and social life in the area."

"We constructed this road to take people safely to their destination, when you are drunk, don't drive, when you are feeling sleepy, don't drive and when you take drugs, please don't drive, by God's grace this road will take us to our destination," Dr. Uduaghan added.

The governor who said the Mbiri farm settlement road was dear to his heart promised to complete it and other projects in the area before he leaves office.

Governor Uduaghan enjoined the people of the area to vote massively for President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and other PDP candidates in the senatorial district, reminding them that they should endeavour to collect their Permanent Voters' Card (PVC) on which basis they can vote at the polls.

'I hope you have all collected your PVCs, please ensure you do that and make sure you vote massively for Mr. President, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa your son and all the other PDP candidates in Delta North."

In his welcome address the Commissioner for Works Mr. Funkekeme Solomon said that the Umunede-Mbiri road project was awarded in October 2014 at a cost of 497.12 million naira and was meant to serve as a link road between Umunede, Mbiri town, Mbiri farm settlement and Delta and Edo States boundary.

Earlier during a courtesy visit to the Obi of Mbiri, HRM Obi Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Alekwe II, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan commended the unity amongst traditional rulers in Delta State and urged their subjects to emulate them so that development can come to their areas.

According to him, 'The presence of other traditional rulers shows the unity among traditional rulers, that is a lesson to all of us who are your subjects because if our royal fathers are united then of course the subjects become united and we have no cause to be divided."

The governor who explained that the road to the farm settlement was being delayed due to the need to redesign it promised that the road and the one leading to the palace would be completed before the end of the administration.

HRM, Obi Dr. Alekwe II commended Dr. Uduaghan for keeping his promise to rehabilitate and reseal the Umunede-Mbiri road and assured the governor of the support of his people as well as the protection of all government properties.

400,000 Permanent Voters Cards Remains Unclaimed in Lagos State - REC

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Lagos State on Friday said about 400, 000 Permanent Voters Cards were still being expected from its headquarters for distribution to their owners.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Akin Orebiyii, said this while addressing newsmen in Lagos.

Orebiyii pleaded with eligible voters whose cards were among those still expected to be patient with the commission, saying that the outstanding cards would soon be delivered.

Orebiyii said, "As of the first week of January, the percentage of distribution of PVCs was hovering around 38 per cent, but as of the end of last week, it was 62.7 per cent.

"But, we are still working seriously because we know that quite a number of people are still yet to collect their PVCs; we want to make sure that they are able to collect these cards.

"As we speak, out of 5,905, 000 cards for Lagos State, we have distributed 3,654,000, but I also need to say that out of 5.9 million, we are still awaiting the arrival of about 400,000 cards.

"As soon as we are able to receive them, we will also be able to push them out so that people can come out to collect them.

"We are expecting additional cards in practically all the 20 Local Government Areas."

Orebiyii said that commission had outstanding cards in some polling units in Oshodi-Isolo, Mushin, Ibeji-Lekki, Ikeja, Ifako-Ijaiye, Badger, Ikorodu, Agege, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Eti-Osa, Apapa, Ojo, Lagos-Island, Kosofe, Surulere, Amunwo-Odofin, Somolu and Epe.

He said, "Also, in Alimosho, we want to urge our people to continue to exercise patience, especially in Shasha, Akowonjo, Idimu, Isheri-olofin, Ikotun, Ijegun, Egbe, Agbojo as well as Ipaja.

"These are the specific areas where we are expecting cards, but we have been given assurance from our headquarters that as early as Monday next week, these cards would start arriving.

"Again, we want to appeal to our people to kindly continue to bear with us and exercise patience; we are working to ensure that these cards arrive in time."

God Is A Woman, A Catholic Priest From USA Who Died for 48 Minutes Claims

A Catholic priest from Massachusetts was officially dead for more than 48 minutes before medics were able to miraculously re-start his heart. During that time, Father John Michael O'neal claims he went to heaven and met God, which he describes as a warm and comforting motherly figure.

The 71-year old cleric was rushed to the hospital on January 29 after a major heart attack, but was declared clinically dead soon after his arrival. With the aid of a high-tech machine called LUCAS 2, that kept the blood flowing to his brain, doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital managed to unblock vital arteries and return his heart to a normal rhythm.

The doctors were afraid he would have suffered some brain damage from the incident, but he woke up less than 48 hours later and seems to have perfectly recovered.

Doctors at the Massachusetts General Hospital say that Father O'neal is extremely lucky to be alive, while he is convinced that it is God who sent him back to tell the world who "she" really is.

The elderly man claims that he has clear and vivid memories of what happened to him while he was dead. He describes a strange out-of-body experience, experiencing an intense feeling of unconditional love and acceptance, as well as being surrounded by an overwhelming light.

He claims that at that point in his experience, he went to heaven and encountered God, which he describes as a feminine, mother-like "Being of Light".

"Her presence was both overwhelming and comforting" states the Catholic priest. "She had a soft and soothing voice and her presence was as reassuring as a mother's embrace. The fact that God is a Holy Mother instead of a Holy Father doesn't disturb me, she is everything I hoped she would be and even more!"

The declarations of the cleric caused quite a stir in the catholic clergy of the archdiocese over the last few days, causing the Archbishop to summon a press conference to try and calm the rumours.

The Archbishop of Boston, Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley, made a public statement this morning stating that Father O'neal suffered hallucinations linked to a near-death experience and that God clearly isn't a female.

Despite the disapproval of his superiors, Father O'neal says that he will continue dedicating his life to God and spread the word of the "Holy Mother".

"I wish to continue preaching" says the elderly cleric. "I would like to share my new knowledge of the Mother, the Son and the Holy Ghost with all catholics and even all Christians. God is great and almighty despite being a woman…"

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston has not confirmed however, if they will allow Father O'neal to resume his preaching in his former parish in South Boston.

EFCC Arraigns Chief Ogbebor In Court Over N77Million Land Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday February 19, 2015 arraigned one Chief Felix Ogbebor before Justice B. O. Quadri of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt.

The accused was arraigned on 8-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery, and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of Seventy Seven Million Naira (N77, 000, 0000.00).

The accused allegedly obtained the sum of Seventy Seven Million Naira from the Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), Stadium Road branch, Port Harcourt for twelve and half plots of land situate at Uyo Street, Rumumasi, Port Harcourt.

He allegedly presented several forged documents to support the claim of ownership of the said land. But the unsuspecting church which wanted the land to build its new worship centre paid the sum of Seventy Seven Million Naira (N77,000,000.000) to the accused.

However, when they attempted to take possession of the land, they were stopped. One Professor Ebi Awotua Efebo came with documents, showing that the land in question belongs to him. The documents showed that he bought the land from one Chief Nelson Chukwu as far as 1990.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The defence counsel, R.E. Wanogho formally presented a bail application and urged the court to grant the accused bail; this was after the prosecuting counsel, J.N Dogonyaro asked prayed the court to remand the accused in the EFCC custody.

The accused remains in the custody of the EFCC with the matter adjourned to next Tuesday February 24, 2015.

Nigerians Should Forget About Elections, As Jonathan, Military Chiefs Work To Scuttle Polls

President Goodluck Jonathan and his closest cronies are still collaborating with a tight-nit circle of military officers to scuttle Nigeria's general elections that had been postponed by six weeks from the original date of February 14, 2015, according to revelations by several political and security sources.

After failing to gain traction with the floating a so-called government of national unity, Mr. Jonathan and his associates have placed renewed hope in persuading some top military generals to force another postponement of the elections, once again using insecurity as their ruse.

SaharaReporters had revealed through several reports that President Jonathan was set on invoking the climate of insecurity in Nigeria's northeast to win a postponement of the elections. However, with members of his party admitting that Mr. Jonathan's electoral fortunes remain dire, the president has been persuaded by hawks close to him to try a fresh tactic of using the uneasy military situation in the northeast to thwart the elections.

Our sources disclosed that the latest plot is being anchored by the National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, who has virtually assumed the functions of the Minister of Defense, Aliyu Gusau. The minister of defense, Gusau who is the NSA's in-law has been tipped to head an interim government in case it becomes a necessity.

A military source told SaharaReporters that Mr. Sambo was now deploying his tremendous financial power to recruit top army generals into doing his bidding. Apart from the NSA, Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison Madueke and Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State were identified as the other important players in the latest risky gamble to further postpone elections.

Whilst Ms. Alison Madueke has been providing funds to finance the new plot, Governor Mimiko has been offering strategic advice on how to combat politicians within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) who may be opposed to the scheme.

Our military sources said the evolving machination threatens to polarize the military as several mid-level officers are reported to be furious with their superiors who are warming up to the idea.

One source described President Jonathan as unperturbed by the clamour for elections, telling members of his kitchen cabinet that his decisions are based upon advice from army generals fighting against Boko Haram.

Although Nigeria's military top brass had claimed that they would wipe out Boko Haram in six weeks, the evidence points to the reality that the Islamist terrorist group may be growing stronger and increasing its ability to strike against new targets.

Recently, the Islamist insurgent group has launched a series of attacks on Gombe and Adamawa State, the latest state in the northeast. They have also captured a few more towns in Borno State.

The postponement of the election appears to have given Boko Haram militants a new boost. In a recent video released few days ago by its leader, Abubakar Shekau, the group talked about their disruption of the upcoming elections.

One security source said the latest plan to scuttle the elections would involve a deliberate effort to allow the security climate to worsen across Nigeria. One plank of the plan is to sponsor Niger Delta militants to cause havoc in the oil-rich delta region in the coming weeks. If the situation becomes dire enough, President Jonathan would then have grounds to declare a national emergency that would make elections impossible in March.

Recently, political thugs financed by Mrs. Patience Jonathan began shooting at opposition rallies held in Rivers State. Such politically-motivated attacks have also been planned for several other states of the federation to create an atmosphere that would get more Nigerians to accept the unviability of holding elections, according to several sources.

"The goal by Mr. President is to achieve another postponement of the elections, but this time by six months," a source familiar with the plot disclosed.

A source stated that the plan explained the fact that Nigeria's security services have yet to schedule an inter-agency briefing with top officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to discuss a comprehensive strategy for guaranteeing security during the elections.

Mr. Jonathan's military option is meant to proceed in tandem with a parallel plan to offer massive bribes to members of the National Assembly to win their support for a six-month extension of the tenure of his administration. Several lawmakers said they were aware of the plan, but added that there was little hope of a majority of legislators backing the plan.

In what represents a third plank of the plot, several cronies of Mr. Jonathan have filed or plan to file lawsuits aimed at scuttling the elections by seeking the disqualification of the APC's presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

At the latest count, some 11 lawsuits have been filed by persons or entities tied to Mr. Jonathan, including the government of Plateau State which has filed a case asking INEC to discard it current voters roll in favour of the one used in 2011.

Dealing With The Cancer Scourge, By Bilkis Bakare

Cancer, also known as malignant neoplasm and the most feared word and disease in the world, is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body. It can also affect nearby parts of the body and more distant parts through the lymphatic system or the blood stream. There are over 200 different types of cancer that affect humans. The disease has been around as long as mankind but only in the second half of the 20th century did the number of cancer cases explode. In 2007, cancer caused about 13 per cent of all human deaths worldwide (7.9million). The global burden of cancer is set to double by 2020 and almost triple by 2030 when one out of every two persons is expected to be diagnosed of cancer in their life time.

Essentially, cancers occur as a result of excessive amount of toxin and pollutants people are exposed to, obesity, tobacco use, lack of physical activity, high stress lifestyles that zap the immune system, poor quality junk food that are full of pesticides, irradiated and genetically modified. Other causes include electro-magnetic lights and everything we were not exposed to 200 years ago. Findings have shown that tobacco use is the most important risk factor for cancer, causing about 70 per cent of global lung cancer deaths and 20 per cent of global cancer deaths. All the afore-mentioned weaken the immune system and change the body's internal environment to one that promotes cancer growth. While cancer can affect people of all ages, and a few types of cancer are more common in children, the risk of developing cancer generally increases with age.

Malignant neoplasm or cancer is a group of different diseases involving unregulated cell growth which often made it to imitate other diseases. Often times, cancer patients have been treated for other diseases for so long leading to the spread of the disease which will eventually kill the patient. Recently, a former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Wilfred Agbonavbare, died of cancer after a protracted struggle, while the wife had earlier died of the disease after gulping all their life savings.

Cancer can affect anybody and all the organs of the body. The most frequently diagnosed cancer in men aside from skin cancer is prostate cancer, while breast cancer remains the most frequently diagnosed type of cancer in women. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in both men and women. If it affects the lungs, it manifests in the form of cough or pneumonia; for oesophageal cancer, it narrows the oesophagus causing painful swallowing anaemia or rectal bleeding. But perhaps the most common forms of cancer in Nigeria are those affecting the breast and the cervix also known as cervical cancer.

The incidence of breast cancer in Nigeria is increasing just like in other developing countries and those advanced countries that used to have a low incidence. Several factors are responsible for this increasing incidence, but the most important are the empowerment of women which is increasing their ability to make independent decisions about their health care, such as the ability to choose when to start having children and the number to have, and westernisation of diet.

It has been observed that women with latter age at onset of first pregnancies and a higher mean number of children have short term risks of developing cancer due to the stimulatory effects of pregnancy on the epithelial tissues of the breast. The protective effect of pregnancy is seen decades after the pregnancy, often after the age of 40 years and in a country with low life expectancy, the women would have developed the disease before the pro-carcinogenic effect of pregnancy can be felt.

On the other hand, cervical cancer, one of the most common types of cancer in women, starts in the cells on the surface of the cervix usually very slowly. There are two types of cells on the cervix's surface called the squamous and columnar cells, but usually most cervical cancers are from squamous cells. It starts as a precancerous condition called dysplasia which can only be detected through a diagnostic process called pap smear. It usually takes years for cancerous changes to turn into cervical cancer. Most women diagnosed with this condition have not had regular pap smears or they have not followed up on abnormal test results. Dysplasia is most often seen in women ages 25-35, although it can develop at any age.

Cervical dysplasia is caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV), spread through sexual intercourse and those at the risk of developing the condition include; women having sex before the age of 18, giving birth before age 16, having multiple sexual partners, smokers and using medication that suppresses the immune system.

Generally, Initial swelling in cancer is usually painless although localised pain may occur in advanced cancer. Other symptoms include fatigue, weight loss, unexplained anaemia, fever of unknown origin. In diagnosing cancer, a biopsy i.e. taking a specimen of the lump or swelling for examination is considered essential for the proper identification of the disease.

Occasionally, a metastatic lump or pathological lymph node is found (in the neck) for which primary tumour cannot be found.

Cancer is a curable disease that should not be allowed to terminate life, but it should be detected on time. Chemotherapy (drugs) and radiotherapy are used as a first line radical therapy in a number of malignancies where disease is clearly incurable aiming at improving the quality of and prolonging life. Surgeries are used to remove tumours entirely in situations where there are some degrees of certainty that the tumours can in fact be removed.

Chemotherapy works by killing all cells throughout the body that multiply and divide rapidly which include cancer cells and other rapidly multiplying and dividing cells that the body needs. These include bone marrow which produces blood, digestive and reproductive systems, and hair follicles etc. leading to anaemia, loss of weight and hair loss.

Therefore, as the world observed "The World Cancer Day" on February 4, 2015, everyone has to be involved in the campaign for the reduction of the cancer epidemic all over the world. The attention should shift towards exploring alternative means of tackling the disease. Herbal remedies should be exploited to combat the disease.

In essence, cancer patients do not have to avoid chemotherapy or radiotherapy to benefit from natural products and supplements. Nutritional supplements are quite useful when used in conjunction with chemotherapy, radiation therapy ad surgery. The supplements work to support the body so that radiation and chemotherapy will actually work better resulting in stronger immune system which will be able to keep cancer from developing again. Leading a sedentary life and exposure to toxins in form of environmental pollutions should be avoided.

The human life is too precious to be left at the mercy of such a deadly disease as cancer. Therefore, it is hoped that government at all levels in our country should provide adequate equipment for diagnosing cancer, provide enlightenment as well as the required funds necessary for this purpose. When the right actions are taken, even aggressive, tough cancer can be defeated.
