Why Are They Still Begging Him? Five PDP Governors Beg Obasanjo

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has renewed its appeal to former President Olusegun Obasanjo to return to the mainstream of the ruling party.

Five governors, led by PDP Governors' Forum Chairman Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, met yesterday with the former President at his Hiltop residence in Abeokuta. The meeting lasted for more than three hours.

NUPENG Express Concern Over Refining Capacity Of Warri And Port Harcourt Refineries

Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, yesterday, expressed concern over the drop in the refining capacity of both Warri and Port Harcourt refineries, decrying the output from the refineries which had dropped to an average of 16 percent of their combined nameplate capacity of 445,000 barrels per day.

NUPENG in a statement by its President, Mr. Igwe Achese, said this was an unfortunate and uncomfortable development for the downstream oil and gas sector of the economy.

Era Of Secrecy In The Judiciary Is Over - CJN

The era when the activities of the judiciary were shrouded in secrecy is over, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, declared yesterday.

The Screening Exercise Done By APC Is Very Tough, Atiku Says

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday in Abuja, said the screening carried out by the All Progressive Congress (APC) for presidential aspirants was tough.

Atiku made the assessment while speaking to newsmen after his screening.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the screening was conducted by the APC Presidential Screening Committee. Atiku said he was `grilled' for 58 minutes.

"It was a hot seat. There were several questions on the economy, insecurity, jobs among others.

"The screening was tough but we pulled through,'' he said.

Fielding questions from journalists, Atiku said: "I have been on campaign for two months, and I am ready.

HIV Conference Opens In Kigali

A three-day International HIV Research Conference opened in Kigali On Wednesday.

The research conference, under the theme "Using Evidence to Save Lives," brought together 400 global experts and researchers on HIV/AIDS.

Speaking at the conference, Edward Mills from Global Evaluative Sciences, Vancouver, Canada said estimated HIV testing and counselling coverage among pregnant women in Africa has improved from 9 percent in 2005 to 45 percent in 2012.
